So Much More than Filling Prescriptions
Expanding Pharmacy Access, Bringing Care Closer to Home
Two significant developments at Blue Ridge Health Pharmacy are making it easier for patients to access medications and improving the experience of those who depend on its services.
Earlier this year, BRH opened a new pharmacy in Brevard, expanding convenient access to prescription services for patients in Transylvania County. Its proximity to BRH’s medical clinics is already making a difference, particularly for patients who might otherwise face delays obtaining their medications.
“The pharmacy has been instrumental in getting patients access already in situations where care may have been delayed had we not been so close to the clinics,” said Gwen Ernesty, RPh, Chief Pharmacy Officer at Blue Ridge Health.
Meanwhile, BRH completed a major remodel of its Chimney Rock pharmacy, creating additional operational space, improving visibility and providing a more welcoming environment. An additional checkout window is helping reduce wait times, while the redesigned space allows the pharmacy team to serve patients more efficiently.
Ernesty noted that the improvements also appear to be encouraging more patients to use the pharmacy, strengthening its connection to the community it serves.
These investments build on an established pharmacy program that filled 178,735 prescriptions in 2025, providing an essential connection between medical care and the medications patients need.
Across its pharmacy locations, BRH helps eligible patients overcome financial and practical barriers through discounted medications, medication assistance, prescription delivery in select areas, and personalized counseling. Patients can also use the RxLocal mobile app to manage prescriptions and request refills.
For people managing chronic conditions, navigating multiple prescriptions or living in rural communities, those services can make an important difference.
But access is about more than convenience. It is also about having someone who takes the time to answer questions, explain medications, and understand the circumstances affecting a patient’s health.
The Brevard opening and Chimney Rock improvements represent another step in BRH’s commitment to making that kind of care available throughout Western North Carolina.
Because a prescription is only the beginning. Helping patients obtain and understand their medications is what turns treatment into better health.
