Blue Ridge Health is excited to offer comprehensive school-based health services in seven counties throughout Western North Carolina. These services promote well-being, health equity, and positive health outcomes for students in the community. 

School-based health programs are available to students, staff, and their families.  Students must be registered with Blue Ridge Health in order to access these health services. To register your child: 

Our team will reach out to you prior to completing any billable medical services. For this reason, we ask that you provide the requested insurance information. If you do not have health insurance, we are happy to help your family apply for coverage. We also offer an affordable sliding-fee scale.

Our school-based health centers are open most school days from 7:45am – 3:45pm. You may call (828) 233-2280 to ask questions, schedule an appointment, or visit a health center. We would love to meet you!

School-Based Health Medical Services

  • Well-child visits and sports physicals
  • Managing chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, diabetes, etc.
  • Evaluating and treating behavioral health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and ADHD
  • Screening for other conditions, medication management, and referrals as needed
  • Testing for and treating infections, such as colds and flu, strep, pinkeye, etc.
  • Evaluating sprains/strains, falls, and minor injuries
  • Free nursing assessments including basic first- aid and OTC medication (with consent)
  • Coordination with your Primary Care provider as applicable
  • Screening, assessment and treatment planning that is person-centered and family oriented
  • Short-term counseling to encourage development of healthy coping skills
  • Brief interventions to help students manage symptoms
  • Referrals for additional services
  • Consultation with school (with consent) and primary care, as needed

Our Registered Dietitian provides consultation, evaluation of growth patterns and eating habits to meet age-appropriate dietary recommendations including:

  • Weight changes
  • Disordered eating
  • Sports nutrition
  • Vegetarian/Vegan
  • Diabetes prevention
  • High blood pressure and high cholesterol

To complete the following forms, you will need to print, sign, and scan them before sending them back to us at SBHCregistration@brchs.com or you may bring them by hand to the school. We cannot accept typed signatures on these forms. You may send copies of your child’s insurance cards and other information to this email address as well.

Sliding-fee scales are available for all service types, including school-based health. Patients will be qualified for discount services based on family size and documented income.
