Ways to Give

What could be easier than donating online? Your gift will go directly toward providing our most vulnerable patients with professional medical, dental, and behavioral health services at a clinic close to their home. By selecting “Make this Gift Recurring,” your monthly support will ensure steady and timely funding that will positively impact those most in need.

In Honor

Wondering what to give the person who has everything? Celebrate a birthday, anniversary, wedding, or retirement with a gift to Blue Ridge Health in their honor. Upon receipt of your gift, an acknowledgement letter or email will be sent to the person you designate, with the amount donated specified upon your request. You will receive a receipt to keep for your records.

In Memory

Rather than sending flowers when a loved one has passed away, consider having family and friends make a donation to Blue Ridge Health. Each donor will receive a personal thank you, and we will send the designated family a list of donors and their addresses. (Gift amounts will be kept confidential.) Honor/Memorial gifts can be made via secure online giving, by mail, or by phone.

Every year, Blue Ridge Health launches our Annual Giving Campaign. This campaign is the building block for all future giving to Blue Ridge Health. The campaign is designed to engage prospective donors while also stewarding existing donors. Through storytelling, the Annual Giving Campaign conveys the work of Blue Ridge Health and the impact to our Western North Carolina communities made possible by charitable gifts.

If you would like to be included in the Blue Ridge Health Annual Giving Campaign, please send an email to Kathryn McConnell, Director of Philanthropy, at kmcconnell@brchs.com

Bequest

The lasting impact of bequests – both large and small – can help shape access to healthcare for the underserved populations of Western North Carolina. For many, a charitable bequest is the easiest and best way to make a future gift to Blue Ridge Health. By means of your will or other estate plan, you can name Blue Ridge Health as the beneficiary of a portion of your estate, or of particular assets in your estate. Several of the most powerful gifts with an enduring impact have been bequests and estate gifts.

Giving by bequest costs nothing now, yet it may give you a great deal of satisfaction to know that your legacy will live on through the impact of your gift.

If you are considering this option, our staff can consult with you and your professional advisors to create a bequest gift that will reflect what is most important to you. Contact Kathryn McConnell, Director of Philanthropy, at kmcconnell@brchs.com or call 828-233-2209 to discuss your options.

Stock Gifts

Long-term, appreciated stocks and securities are always an excellent asset to consider for providing charitable support to Blue Ridge Health. These types of gifts have a double benefit for you — a current income tax deduction, and the avoidance of capital gains taxes.

The most popular and efficient way to transfer securities to Blue Ridge Health is by electronic transfer. Electronic transfers are performed when your securities are held in a brokerage account. The procedures for the free delivery and transfer of securities are as follows:

Notify your broker in writing that you wish to transfer your stock to Blue Ridge Health. The letter should indicate that the purpose is to make a charitable gift. Your broker can provide you with the necessary language required by their particular firm.

Instruct your broker to contact Kathryn McConnell, Director of Philanthropy, at kmcconnell@brchs.com or call 828-233-2209 for delivery instructions.

Once the transfer is made, your broker should again notify Kathryn McConnell, who will verify its receipt. The value of your stock equals the mean of the high and low values of the stock on the day it is received in the Blue Ridge Health account. (You should always consult your professional advisor before making a gift of stock and/or securities.)

Life Income Gifts

Life income gifts serve a dual purpose: They provide philanthropic support for Blue Ridge Health, while also providing both a charitable income tax deduction and an income stream to you and/or your loved ones.

These methods can provide income benefits comparable to — or in some cases exceeding — those that might be earned through non-charitable methods. Many donors establish life income gifts with assets that are producing a very small amount of income, such as cash or appreciated stocks that do not earn dividends.

Blue Ridge Health partners with the Community Foundation of Henderson County to offer three basic types of life income gifts:

A Charitable Gift Annuity, (for gifts of $10,000+), provides a fixed income for the life of one or two donors calculated on the age of the donor. This gifting method may be established without the assistance of an attorney.

A Charitable Remainder Unitrust, (for gifts of $50,000+), makes payments that fluctuate with the market, and therefore may provide a hedge against inflation. This gifting method requires the services of an attorney.

A Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust, (for gifts of $50,000+), provides a fixed income like a gift annuity, but the tax treatment of the payout may be preferable for donors giving highly appreciated assets. This gifting method requires the services of an attorney.

As with all charitable gifts, you should consult your professional advisors prior to making the gift.
